A Coproduction with Theater Rampe and Theater Lübeck
What if a virus was not just the serious attack at an organism? What if he led society not into a collapse but out of it? What if this friendly visit brought the resuscitation as a guest gift and its infection was like a long-awaited touch? What if the virus tasted sweet? The residents of the ›House of Antibodies‹ reinterpret the pandemic and, thanks to the virus, mutate into resistant antibodies. They are relieved when it breaks down disease-causing norms and habits. This virus brings neither illness nor death to the organism, but – on the contrary – healing. This pandemic places a quarantine on society that overcomes previous periods of standstill and isolation, and marks the start of a brave new world.
A double feature of two films tells about the virus breaking into all rooms and organs of the ›House of Antibodies‹.
In ›Cocooning / kəˈkuːnɪŋ /‹ (dance film), the virus brings its sweet gift to the basement, where until then a kidney is doing lonely heavy work. In the bathroom, the exhausted lungs are just struggling for air and in the living area a uterus is always ready to receive. The heart beats everywhere and sets the swelling rhythm of a resuscitation. From room to room and organ to organ, the virus opens doors and circulation.
In ›Pandemic – A Revenant‹ (theater film) the virus brings together a doctor and a patient in the extensive labyrinth of the stage areas of the ›House of Antibodies‹. In common quarantine, they indulge in all phases of the examination, diagnosis, clarification, treatment and corresponding interactions. The model of a headstrong, resistant and proud community grows out of mutual infection, immunization, danger and healing.
The ›House of Antibodies‹ was planned as a live performance on five simultaneous stages for a circulating audience. This concept could not be implemented due to the onset of a virus and the outbreak of a pandemic. Rather, it was imperative for everyone to stay at home and the parties involved communicated online. Under the influence of the applicable hygiene standards, dancers, actors and musicians rehearsed in their apartments in Stuttgart, Antwerp, Richmond, Marseille, Berlin, Weinstadt, Munich and Hamburg as well as in the Theater Rampe. With their mobile phones, sometimes with the support of their domestic communities, they shot themselves many scenes. This is how the virtual ›House of Antibodies‹ was created.
